Bitcoin Inheritance Descriptor Backup
A 2-of-3 should mean any two keys is enough. It is not. The wallet also needs its descriptor, and if you lose one key and lose the descriptor, the keys you still hold cannot rebuild it. We put an encrypted copy on Bitcoin, where it cannot be lost, and only your keys open it.
We never see your descriptor
It stays on your machine. The encryption runs in your browser, not on our servers. In the session a Butler guides you over video and sees your screen, never your files. The form below asks only the shape of your wallet and which software holds it. It never asks for your descriptor, your keys or your addresses.
1. Intake
Tell us the shape of your wallet and which software holds it. Seed words are never involved.
2. Payment
A flat $150 USD. We pay the chain fee out of that, so you need no node and no sats of your own.
3. Session
45 minutes. We encrypt your descriptor, put it on the chain, and read it straight back with your own keys while you watch.
Only your keys open it
The backup is public and permanent, which is what makes it outlive us. Nobody can read it without your keys.
Rather do it yourself? The tool is free and runs in your browser at /tools/inheritance/descriptor.html. You pay the publishing fee yourself, and nobody checks your work.
Once it is on the chain it cannot be lost, but wallets change. The annual drill reads your backup back off the chain every year and republishes it if your wallet has moved on. $195 a year, and it is optional.
Want the guardians too? The full placement session splits a backup across people you trust, and includes this step.
